TRAIN RIDES
The schedule is dependent on when Easter Sunday falls each year, but generally train rides begin on Easter Sunday and then follow from the fourth Sunday in April until the end of October (weather permitting of course) Rides begin at around 13-00hrs and continue through until 17-00hrs. A nominal charge is made for each passenger.
Some ‘Special Days’ are run during the running season, see our ‘Special Events Page’ for more about these.
Riding behind either a steam driven locomotive or an electrically powered ‘diesel outline’ locomotive the passengers enjoy a ride of a lifetime. ALL age groups are allowed to ride, however in the interests of safety a really small child should be accompanied by an adult or older brother or sister. Rides comprise one circuit of our track which is around 980 feet in length and to some seems really fast, although the majority of our trains are limited to a speed of around 8mph.
The locomotives are normally built by the members, although some are purchased as finished locomotives. The Society does not own any of its own locomotives so we rely solely on members coming to support these days. In the event of there being a shortage of locomotives, there will be a short delay while waiting for a train ride.
The only other determining factor is the weather. Obviously if it is very wet then we reserve the right to cancel the events for that day, but there is also the chance the next weekend we could run the day if it is missed. Please check this web site for up to date information.
